Step-by-step instructions for properly installing and using Trenchmate shoring systems.
Our standard trench shields provide maximum protection for workers in trenches.
Ensure the excavation area is marked and underground utilities are identified. Clear the area of obstacles and ensure adequate space for equipment movement.
Dig the trench to the required dimensions. The trench should be slightly wider than the shield to allow for easy installation.
Using appropriate lifting equipment, position the shield at the edge of the trench. Ensure the shield is oriented correctly with the cutting edge at the bottom.
Lower the shield into the trench using the lifting points provided. Never allow workers in the trench during shield placement.
For deeper trenches, use the dig and push method: excavate material from inside the shield and push the shield down progressively.
If strut adjustment is needed, follow the safe working procedure provided with each shield. Only adjust struts when the shield is out of the trench.
Once work is complete, remove the shield by lifting it vertically using the designated lifting points. Never pull the shield at an angle.
Essential components that enhance the functionality and safety of Trenchmate shoring systems.
Attach push beams (formerly 'beater beams') to the top of shields when using an excavator bucket for positioning. Ensure the beam is securely fastened to the shield before applying pressure.
Inspect chains before use. Attach to designated lifting points only. Ensure even distribution of weight and proper angle during lifting operations.
When connecting multiple shields, ensure all connection points are properly aligned and secured. Verify that connecting pins are fully inserted and locked.
Install access ladders according to manufacturer instructions. Secure ladders to prevent movement during use. Ensure ladders extend at least 1 meter above the trench edge.
Install end plates when protection is needed at the ends of the shielded area. Secure all fasteners and verify stability before allowing workers in the protected area.
